This trail offers a fantastic view towards Ålesund, Nordøyane, and the mountains. On the bridge over the Molværselva River, you will see the goats from “Three Billy Goats Gruff” (Nor. “De tre bukkene Bruse”) carved in wood. After a short climb, you will come to a flat area, Gamlestølen, at about 200 m a.s.l. A nisse from Sula, Sulanissen, has got his own little house slightly west of Gamlestølen. A kiosk in the Vonhytta cabin is open Sundays and some holidays, and it is possible to arrange accommodation in the cabin.
Route description
You will follow a prepared mountain trail, which is partially rocky but mostly easy to walk. There is a small ascent before the trail flattens out towards the Molværselva River and Gamlestølen. Follow the Vonløypa trail as it gradually ascends past the house of Sulanissen. Continue across the bridge over Steinelva. Just under 400 metres after the bridge, the path takes a sharp turn south. Follow the path as it gradually ascends to Vonhytta at about 510 m a.s.l. From there, a short side trail leads to Blåfjell, 344 m a.s.l. You will see Reidarvarden, the cairn on top of the mountain, the entire time. This destination is worth a detour as it offers an amazing panoramic view of Breisundet, Ålesund, and Nordøyane. The Vonhytta cabin, which lies at the height of about 510 m a.s.l., was built by volunteers from Idrottslaget VON in 1934 and now belongs to Langevåg IL.
