Vestresetra

This is a relatively easy walk along the Sagåna river. Once you walk across the river, you will see a more open landscape, and the rest of the trail will pass through some moderate terrain with not much climbing. You will find the trail postbox by an old stone wall at the Vestresetra summer mountain farm. Take a minute to enjoy the idyllic atmosphere of this place.

The first section of the path goes through a small damp area of marshland. Then the path becomes dry and clear and climbs up through the forest along the right side of the Sagåna river. After a while the terrain flattens out and the landscape becomes open. Walk across the river here and continue following the path on the left side of Kjerringholen. Follow the path further up in the direction of the farm buildings that you see further up on your right-hand side. You will find the trail postbox by the wall of an old summer mountain farm called Vestresetra.

If you would like, you could also walk further to Mount Otrefjellet. In that case you need to go back from Vestresetra to the point where you crossed the river. Right before the river you will see a stick with a red top on the right side of the path. Walk up from here. The path can be a bit unclear at the start, but you should continue walking straight up following the red marks / sticks. You will soon start seeing the path clearly. Carry on walking up the path until it splits at the foot of Mount Otrefjellet. Take the right fork here and follow the clear and well waymarked path up to the top of Otrefjellet. It is also nice to take a walk down to the water purification plant Vatne Vassverk. To get there, keep to the right when you return to the fork in the path on your way back from Otrefjellet, and follow the farm road down again. In that case it would be convenient to have a car by the water plant.

Turn off E39 onto County Road 661 (Fv661) towards Brattvåg and Vatne. Drive along Fv661 past Lake Engesetdalsvatnet and cross the border of Haram municipality. At the junction by the “Europris” shop in Eidet, take the turn to the right onto Fv661. Drive through the centre of Vatne and follow County Road 147 (Fv147) towards Fiksdal. After driving for about 6.8 km from Eidet up Vatnedalen, you will come to a straight section of the road with safety barriers on both sides. At the end of the safety barrier on the left-hand side there is a sign to Vestresetra and Otrefjellet. This is where the path starts. There is a car park for two cars here. If it is full, just follow the road for about 100 m further and you will find another car park on the right side of the road.

Next to the Sagåna river, about 6.8 km from Eidet along County Road 147 (Fv147).
