Mount Urdfjellet is just a 15-minute drive from the centre of Molde. It often has good skiing conditions right after the snowfall. In clear weather, you have a fantastic ocean view from the top. You will get a proper high mountain feeling here. You might meet people skiing to this popular destination with head torches in the evening. You will then see the lights from both Elnesvågen and Vestnes. Toppen av Urfjellet UTM32N 6966635.0N 413929.0E
Leave your cat at the large car park in Skarstua. North of the car park, you will find a tractor road that goes east/northeast. Follow that road. From Malmesetra, the road will start turning north over the river. Keep following the road as it takes another turn west in the direction of Melsetra. You will soon come to a gate. Turn off the road here and go north over the marshes. Aim for the clearings in the forest until you leave it and start climbing up a gentler section of the trail. Cross a small river and go west towards the ridge that leads you up to the mountaintop. (Many skiers choose to go straight north and get to the steep cliff without crossing the river, but the gradient here is over 30 degrees, and you must consider the avalanche risk.) You will soon pass a stone cabin proving that you are following the right route. Follow the ridge north to the mountaintop.
There is usually a lot of parking space in Skarstua.
