Urfjellet – Julskardtind – Galten
Hustadvika
This scenic hike starts from Skaret and ends south of the Tussen Tunnel on the side of Fræna. You will walk past Jakob Sunde’s cabin, enjoy the view from the top of Urfjellet (Kaldbakken), and move further west with a great view in all directions, including the iconic panoramic view of Romsdal.
Start: Skaret
Destination: Malmekleiva.
Park your car in Skaret and start following the farm road from there. Turn left, cross the river, and continue up to Melsetra. You will see a sign that reads “Urdfjellet”. Follow the path east of the fence – watch out for wet sections! From here, just follow the path uphill through deciduous forest until you reach the cabin. The way from the cabin to the top of Urfjellet is marked with cairns.
This is a nice spot to take a break before walking further west. On your way down to the mountain gap where there is a power line from Molde to Fræna, you will need to do some mountain climbing. From there, walk up again via Julskardtind and all the way to Galten where you will find a trail journal. Continue slightly south and onto the path that runs past Lake Klompevatna. There are some wet sections in the forest towards the end of the hike. This hike took us four and a half hours and, according to our GPS, was 9.8 km long and had a total ascent of 958 metres and descent of 1084 metres.
We used two cars: one was parked just before the Tussen/Skaret junction and the other at the car park in Skaret.
Car parking is available just before the junction near the Tussen Tunnel/the Malmedalen Valley.
