Storehornet/Sandviktua

Sande

The trail at a glance

Storehornet is probably the most visited peak in Sande Municipality. The trail is fairly easy and offers a great view of the islands in the area. Sitting on top of Storehornet and watching the sunset over the ocean is an experience in itself. The large cairn on the mountaintop was built in 1999 by hiking enthusiasts under the auspices of the sports associations Gursken IL and Larsnes IL to mark the beginning of the year 2000. Both Gursken IL and Larsnes IL set up their trail posts on the peak.

Route description

The trail starts at the west side of the road, from the highest point of Drageskaret. Walk west over some marshy areas. Follow the mountain ridge up to the peak. The path is solid under foot but can be slippery over the marshy areas in rainy weather.

Access and parking

Park your car along County Road 61 (FV61), at the highest point of Drageskaret, between Gursken and Larsnes.
