Sollia

Sande

The trail at a glance

Sollia is the highest mountain in both Sande and Herøy municipalities, but this trail is on the side of Herøy. The westernmost peak of the mountain (660 m a.s.l.) belongs to Sande, while the easternmost peak (661 m a.s.l.) belongs to Herøy. The view in all directions is spectacular. You will see Herøy, Sande, Ulstein, the Sunnmørsalpane mountain range, and the mountains of Vanylven. Two sports associations, Gurskøy IL and Moltu IL, set up their trail posts on the peak.

Route description

The trail starts from the car park by the illuminated ski trail in Leikongeidet. Follow the path northwest through the valley. When you reach the mountain edge, continue along the path as it turns northeast and follows the ridge up to a small peak. The path continues northeast before turning north and then northwest over the marshes. Once you reach the mountain edge, follow the path west over a large marsh. Continue up to a peak that is marked as 598 m on the map. You will be able to see Sollia from that peak. From there, follow the path down to a small lake and walk on the south side of that lake. Continue straight ahead towards Sollia. Once you come up on the right side of the peak, follow the ridge for the final few metres until you reach the top. You will also meet the paths that come up from Moldtustranda and Tjørvåg.
