Around Silsetvatnet

This wonderful hike around Lake Silsetvatnet takes you through rich cultural landscape, good fishing spots, remains of old buildings and much more. The trail mostly follows a solid gravel road and is stroller-friendly. Along the trail you will find the Silsethytta cabin with a history of its own. You will also come across the summer farms Indergardssetra and Gammelsetra with several buildings and cultural sights dating back to the period of active mountain summer farming. The trail goes past the Stokkåsen mountain farm. On your way further you will also walk past the dam and the pipeline running from Lake Silsetvatnet.

You can start this trail at a number of different places along the road coming from Silset. But we recommend that you park your car at Indergardssetra. Walk for about 100 m back form the car park down the hill and to the left onto the forest road towards Randa. When you are the water divide near Randa, take the turn to the right and walk down the path towards Stokkåsen. Walk along the path for about 200 metres until you reach the old mountain farm called Stokkåsen. This is the only section of the trail where you will be following a path. From Stokkåsen walk along the tractor road as it runs downhill until you reach the dam at Silsetvatnet. Here you can cross the dam or walk for 100 metres down the motor road and cross the river over the bridge. You will be walking on solid tractor road along the entire west side of the lake. The Stikk UT postbox lies around 1 km away from the dam. Around the north part of the lake you will come to the motor road again, and after about 1 km you will see the Silsethytta cabin. The cabin is not open, but you can contact the Kristiansund Sports Association to arrange rental. Continue walking further until you reach the car park at Indergardssetra.

Turn off E39 in Silset (about 2 km from Batnfjord centre in the direction of Molde). Follow the toll road to the Silsetfjellet mountain and park your car at Indergardssetra. You can also park your car near the Silsethytta cabin. Alternatively, you can drive from Istad up to the dam on Silsetvatnet.
