The trail at a glance

This is a nice family trail with a beautiful view! Even though the top you are walking up to is not as high as the other mountain tops in the area, this trail offers you a fantastic view towards the Kvernes Fjord and the island of Averøy.

Route description

The starting point is the same as for the trail to Mount Snøtinden. Once you reach the point where the road begins to flatten out you will see a small car park on the right side of the road (2.5 km from the junction where the road to Ugelstadsetra mountain farm begins). Here you will see a path running on the left side of the road along the canal that is perpendicular to the road. After about 350 metres from the start the path swings left across a small brook (look for a small green sign with an arrow attached to a tree), goes along a spruce forest plantation and swings up the hill. Follow the hillside to the left until you reach the cairn at the top of Mount Skarvan, 540 m a.s.l. Here you will see a trail checkpoint, but you should continue walking up to the right until you reach the next top which is Mount Seterfjellet, ca. 800 metres from Skarvan. Before you start going in the direction of Seterfjellet, 618 m a.s.l., take the opportunity to walk along the crest of Skarvan to enjoy the view of Eide, Averøya and the Kvernes Fjord. On your way down walk through Kjølaskaret and Ugelstadsetra following the way that will take you back to the place where you parked your car. If you are fit enough, you can take an additional walk down to Lake Kjølavatnet and register at another Stikk UT! trail checkpoint there. When we were testing out this trail, we went to Seterfjellet first, then walked via Skarvan on our way back and returned the same way as we went up. The path is well developed and a bit rocky at times, but it is easy to find your way. It can be a bit wet along the way after the rain, and at the start the trail passes through some marshland and small brooks (when it is raining), so we recommend wearing good-quality mountain / hiking shoes.

On your way down you can walk through Kjølaskaret and Ugelstadsetra following the way that will take you back to the place where you parked your car. If you are fit enough, you can take an additional walk down to Lake Kjølavatnet and register at another Stikk UT! trail checkpoint there.

Arrival and parking

If you are driving from the centre of Eide, turn off National Road 64 (Rv64) at the first junction taking the left turn towards Høgset and follow County Road 279 (Fv279). If you are coming from the direction of Molde, take the turn to the right at the first junction after the Sjelvik car service. After 2.2 km turn right towards Ugelstad onto County Road 278 (Fv278). (There is no sign at the turnoff here). After about 100 m turn left and continue up the Ugelstadvegen road. Turn left again and drive up in the direction of Ugelstadsetra farm. The Stikk UT!-sign is set up at the beginning of the road to the farm. You will have to pay a toll fee of 30 NOK if you want to drive up this road by car. If you would like to walk up the toll road, you can drive over the bridge and park your car at the meeting point. The distance to the car parks for the trails to Seterfjellet, Skarvan and Snøtinden is 2.5 and 3.1 km, respectively. In this case bear in mind that your hike will be at least 40–50 minutes longer as you will be walking into the valley.

Ugelstadsetra. The starting point is the same as for the trail to Mount Snøtinden. Once you reach the point where the road begins to flatten out you will see a small car park on the right side of the road. Here you will see a path running on the left side of the road along the canal that is perpendicular to the road.
