Sandfjelltua via Blæjevatnet

Sandfjelltua rises to 1002 metres above sea level and is the lowest of the 1000-metre-high peaks of Syvde. The mountain is a popular destination for skiing in spring and ptarmigan hunting in autumn. From Sandfjelltua, you will have a great view of the highest mountains in Vanylven, namely Blæja at 1142 m a.s.l. And Myrkevasstinden at 1131 m a.s.l. You can also enjoy the view of the Blæjeegga ridge which is reflected in Lake Blæjevatnet.

The walk from Røfsdalsætra to Lake Blæjevatnet will take you about 30–45 minutes. Begin by walking from the car park in Røfsdalsætra and follow the signs for Blæjevatnet. The well-defined path begins on a slope above the cabins. It is marked with blue paint on stones and sticks. Cross a small river, which may become broad after a heavy rain. As you walk further, the path will climb fairly steeply and you will ascend quite fast. The steepest section of the trail ends at the Tåbrothytta cabin. From here, the path will take you over some areas of bare rock before it flattens out as you start walking into the heathland toward the Blæjevassbu cabin. From Blæjevassbu, follow the path to the left, cross the river that runs from Blæjevatnet, and walk to the sign that marks Olavskjelda. From Olavskjelda, you can see the heather-covered mountain ridge that stretches up Sandfjellet. The trail is not marked from Olavskjelda, so you can decide for yourself which way to go. Just choose a heather-covered hilltop and walk the final 300 altitude metres straight up to the top.

Drive from the centre of Syvde in the direction of Saurdal. When the county road takes the right turn in Smedbøen, continue driving straight ahead between some residential houses. Once you have passed the houses. You will see a large stone on the right side of the road with a box attached to it. This is a toll collection point set up by Myklebust Joint Ownership.
