Rellingsetra in Norddal

Fjord

The trail at a glance

The summer mountain farm Rellingsetra has become a popular skiing destination on Sunday, but it also makes for a wonderful fitness trail on other days of the week. The climb up to the farm is fairly gentle, which makes it a good fit for children. Up at the farm, you will find a ski lodge where you can take a well-deserved break.

Route description

This trail has two starting points. The most popular one is from the car park in Hatlestad, so it is possible to start there. The trail with the starting point in Lilleåsen is slightly longer, but you will get more sun and enjoy a more diverse landscape, so we recommend starting there. The trail starts at the car park of the Lilleås ski resort. The first kilometre of the ski trail runs through moderate terrain before you go down a slope towards the road that comes from the car park in Hatlestad. When you reach that ski trail, take the turn to the right and follow the road as it takes you further ahead.  The ski trail now follows a farm road with gentle and gradual ascent for roughly 1 kilometre. About half way through, you will get a fantastic view over the village and Norddalfjorden. You will then need to turn off to the right. The final stretch up to the farm starts with a hill where you will often have to use the herringbone technique to climb up. It will be a fast downhill slope on your way back. The terrain is flat for the final 400 metres until you reach the Stikk Ut trail postbox and the old ski lodge at the mountain farm. There may be several other groomed ski trails from Rellingsetra depending on weather and snow conditions. You can, for instance, extend your ski trip to Hatlestadsetra or Lake Storvatnet. The trail is normally prepared for both classic and skate skiing. Follow the same way back to Rellingsetra.

Access and parking

Drive in the direction of Norddal for about 5 km from the ferry terminal in Eidsdal. Take the right turn into the village by the convenience store and drive for about 2 km before turning right over a bridge. The road continues up to Hatlestad and Lillås with no other junctions. You will pass the waterfall Dyrdalsfossen on your way. You can park free of charge in both Hatlestad and Lilleås. The car parks are linked to ski trails.

Other

The ski lodge at the Rellingsetra mountain farm is a living cultural heritage. A part of it is an old house which was moved from the village up to the farm and used as a meeting point for skiing and outdoor enthusiasts in the 50s. Is still widely used as a meeting point today, especially in winter. Rellingsetra is also a great starting point for several shorter and longer ski trips that can be done on both cross-country skis and touring/mountain skis.
