This is a wonderful mountain hike with plenty of open spaces and great views all along the way. After you have challenged yourself with quite strenuous exercise on your way up, you will find a trail postbox with a journal near Lake Fjærlivatnet where you can write your name. Then you will take part in the prize draw.Once you reach the top, you will get a fantastic panoramic view over the fjord, the sea and the majestic mountains of Tustna. You will also enjoy a great view of the mountain areas which stretch further into the mainland. The viewing point is absolutely breathtaking. It could also be fun to play with the wind here when weather conditions are appropriate, or you can enjoy your packed lunch on a nice calm day.
Follow the forest road / gravel road as it climbs steeply up to Lake Fjærlivatnet. From there, turn right and follow the waymarks up in the direction of the fjord. After a while the path takes a sharp ascent towards the top of the mountain. Be careful here, especially when it is foggy. Follow the same way back or continue walking across and down the Sandådalen valley until you reach Valsøybotn. Please see a separate description of this trail. If you would like, you could also take a walk around Lake Fjærlivatnet to see the Fjærlisetra summer mountain farm.
