Larsbua, Frei

Kristiansund

The trail at a glance

The trail to Larsbua is a lovely walk for the whole family. When you reach Larsbua, you will get a magnificent view of the Straumsnes, Gjemnes and Averøya municipalities. Larsbua is a small cabin with benches and a place to make a fire. You can hide from bad weather inside the cabin and enjoy a snack here or sit around the fire. Before the cabin was built, there were only benches and a place for a fire here, that is why the place is also called “Benkan” (“Benches”).

Route description

The trail starts from the former furniture factory in Flatset, at the junction of the Rastarkalvvegen and Flatsetbakken roads. Walk across Flatsetbakken road and onto Vollabakken road. You will see a nice brown “postal cabin” at the start of this private road. Vollabakken is privately owned, and you should not drive or park along this road. After 100 metres, keep to the left as you walk up the hill — you will see Seterhaugen and Freikollen a long way ahead. The trail will then take you into the forest onto a nice and wide forest road. Follow this forest road until you come across an equally wide forest road that goes left. Walk along this road until you see a path that goes slightly uphill and to the right. The path runs through a magical deep forest and continues uphill. You will realize that you are on the right path to the top with a fantastic view. You will then meet a wide forest road that you need to follow up to Larsbua which will be on your right-hand side.

Arrival and parking

The trail starts in Flatset. There is a marked car park near the old furniture factory in Flatset. The building is now home to the “Flexi Trening” training studio. From the Krifast road system, follow National Road 70 (Rv70) towards Kristiansund. After you pass the tunnel, follow the sign to Møst and you will see an old furniture factory right in front of you as you turn off the national road. If you are driving from the centre of Kristiansund, follow National Road 70 (Rv70) towards Krifast. Follow the sign to Møst after Storbakken. As you turn off the national road, you will see an old furniture factory right in front of you.

You can park your car free of charge in front of the old Flatset furniture factory on Frei Island. Park your car on the right side of the car park. The “Flexi Trening” training studio has their own customer car park. Do not park along the wall of the building where it is marked with the “kundeparkering” sign (“customer car park”).
