Kroken (Gamlevegen, Norddal)
Fjord
The trail to Kroken follows an old cart track from the village up to the mountain farms Gjæra, Hatlestad and Lillås. Before the new motor way was built, this had been the main road used by both the people who lived on the mountain farms and those who were going to Rellingsætra. The cart track is mainly used by hikers these days. It is still open, but is now covered with grass. Kroken is the name of the place where the cart track turns around about 1.5 km after the starting point. The road up to Kroken goes through beautiful pastures, and you will have a view of the village for large parts of the trail. On your way up to Kroken you will cross a number of spectacular rivers, beautiful bridges and some stones which children love to climb on.
The trail follows an old grass-covered cart track. There are no particularly challenging sections, but the trail ascends slightly as you walk along. The surface is somewhat uneven, so if you have any walking difficulties, a couple of walking sticks would be useful. It is also possible to cycle both up and down this road, but please pay attention to hikers and grazing animals you see in the area. To start the trail, walk through the gate located right next to the road. Follow the cart track further up the hillside until you reach Kroken where the track takes a 180-degree turn. If you want to continue walking once you reach Kroken, you can either follow the road up to Gjæra or walk in the direction of southeast, towards the path that leads up to the motor road. In that case you can follow the motor road down to the village.
The destination of this trail is Kroken, the place where the road turns.
You can park your car next to the Dalsbygda day-care centre. You will find a gate next to the motor road about 100 metres from the car park. This is where the hike starts.
You can park your car next to the Dalsbygda day-care centre free of charge.
