Hestnesdalen — Cultural Wander Through the World of Anne Karin Elstad.

Heim

The trail at a glance

The trail passes through diverse forest and cultural landscape and takes you up to Lake Englivatnet. Follow the gravel road to the reconstructed summer mountain farm Hestnessetra (from August 2010) which is described in Anne Karin Elstad's book called “Hjem” (“Home”). In her book, Anne Karin Elstad describes herself and her brother who lived on the farm in their early youth.

Route description

Leave your car at the car park in Hestnes down by the seaside, follow the county road (exit from E39 towards Valsøybotn), walk for about 300 metres before turning onto a gravel-surfaced forest road towards the Hestnesdalen valley. If you want a shorter walk, drive up Hestnesdalen (open toll road) and park your car at the top of the hills. From Lake Englivatnet the road is closed with a boom gate, so you will have to walk from here on. The trail can also be used as a bicycle route.
