You will find Lake Bolgvatnet in an idyllic location right in the middle of the island of Frei, 64 metres above sea level. It is the biggest lake in Kristiansund municipality. The lake is a source of drinking water, but it is open for limited public use. The outdoor area of Lake Bolgvatnet is protected by the state. An old mail route from the island of Frei went along the northwestern side of the lake. On the same side of the lake at the mouth of the Seterbekken stream, you can also see the remains of the Bolgsetra farm. About 2 km along the lake on its southeastern side, there used to be the remains of an old national road. Today there is a hiking trail where the former national road used to connect the old junction in Vadsteinsvik with the dam building in the northern end of the lake. The gravel road continues all the way to the Storbakken residential area. Several paths lead down to the beach, and there are nice rest areas along the entire stretch of the lake. There is a toilet building in the area. The trail offers good cycling opportunities. The trail postbox is placed approximately in the middle of the hiking trail that goes along the lake. Fishing with a rod is currently free, but you must not use a fishing net or an otter board. From 1 January until 20 August children have the right of free fishing of freshwater fish caught with a fishing rod or a hand line. You do not have to pay a fee for fishing in Lake Bolgvatnet!
