Benkjen above Legene – Åheim
Vanylven
The trail up to Benkjen is a short and easy hike with a beautiful view over the Vanylvsfjord. The trail follows a good-quality road up to the well and goes through a forest for the final 100 metres, which also makes it a good fit for children. You could bring an evening snack here to enjoy the view.
This trail is a good fit for people of all ages. You will walk along a gravel road all the way to the well, and there is a bench to rest on about halfway through the trail. The trail starts with a gentle ascent for the first 500 metres and becomes somewhat steeper through the final section before the well. Once you reach the well, turn left and follow the sign that reads “Rasteplass 100 m” (“Rest area – 100 m”). Follow the well-defined path through the forest. This section is especially exciting for children. Keep to the left when the path splits just after you walked onto it. Just before reaching the end point of the trail, you will come out of the forest and get a fantastic view of the Stad Peninsula and the Vanylvsfjord.
The trail starts from Åheimslida Street. To get there, turn off Vanylvsvegen Road by the river in Torvika, about 200 metres from the daycare centre. Follow the road until you reach the starting point of the trail. Please drive carefully as there are many families with children in the area. Park your car along the side of the road near the starting point.
For a slightly longer hike, you can start walking from Åheim School. Park your car by the sports hall Olivinhallen or the transformer kiosk above the school. Follow the footpath up to the right, turn left at the junction, and walk for about 100 metres to the starting point of the trail.
